The Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad clarified any confusion that existed about the involvement of Malaysia in a trade war with the European nations. He said that there was no trade war that was going on between Malaysia and Europe.
He also clarified his previous remarks that he has made about the Malaysian government buying fighter jets from China in case the European Union continued the discriminatory move against Malaysia for palm oil. He said that he had made those remarks simply to refer about the problems that Malaysia could face later.
While speaking at a press conference at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2019, he said that he intended to tell the world that it was highly unfair for a wealthy country for preventing the poor nations from getting wealthier by but purchasing products from them.
He said that he also met with the delegation from Japan, Russia and France who have showed their interest for working along with Malaysia while the discussions were ongoing. During the discussion proposals were also made for the construction of manufacturing plants for the aircraft parts in Malaysia.
When the Prime Minister was asked about having any plans of purchasing Russian Fighter jets, he said that Malaysia was interested in purchasing Russian fighter jet aircrafts but at the moment it has no plans of purchasing it. He also said that Malaysia’s old aircrafts could still give good performances as he referred to one of the recent aerial displays.
He also said that he was impressed by the display and the performance shown by the country’s own fighter jets and said if Malaysia had the required amount of money then he would want to buy a few hundred more like those.
